Women are more likely to experience migraines at risk of depression, according to new research based on health data for 14 years.
Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has conducted a study of 36,000 women who suffer from migraines or a few years ago until now still continue to experience it. They are at 36 percent of the highest risk of depression.
During 14 years of research, mental disorders are more prevalent in women who frequent migraines than those who rarely get migraines. Researchers also found that 6500 women are still experiencing migraines are at highest risk of experiencing depression.
Researcher Dr Tobias Kurth, an epidemiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, said that women who have migraine should not be beramsumsi they will experience depression, but should be aware of the causes that can trigger the risk.
Migraines usually occur four to 72 hours of the pain throbbing in the head, nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to sound and light. Previous research also has shown women with chronic migraine is more than 15 times a month, then the risk four times more prone to depression.
"We hope that these findings may encourage physicians to discuss the risks to be faced by migraine patients and inform the best ways to prevent depression," adds Dr. Kurt,
